Pig Week!

Today we began our pig theme. Mrs. Lauber loves the pig theme and all the great books she can read us this week! This morning, Evan's grandmother, Mrs. Dostal, read our new fluency passage with us. We read the passage Something New. We will be practicing this passage all week. After our morning meeting, we learned our word of the day. Our word of the day today was "his". We decided that this word is a rule breaker because the "s" is saying the sound of "z". After word of the day, we heard the story Ping Pong Pig. This was a great book to read before starting our writing time today. We reviewed that when we write fiction stories, they should have characters, a when, a where, and a problem and solution. We listened for all of these story elements in the story. Then, we had time to write in our journals. Soon, it was time for recess and phys.ed. After phs.ed. we had recess and lunch. When we came back to start our afternoon, we began with math meeting. For our math lesson today, we reviewed sorting. Mrs. Lauber gave each group a bag full of pigs. We used the pigs to sort by color, size, and shape. After math, we heard the story The Pig in a Wig. We learned the retelling words first, next, then, and last. We used these retelling words to draw and retell the story. Ask us to use our drawings to retell the story to you tonight. Next we had a center tour. We have a games center, magnetic letters center, writing center, and a listening center this week. We are working on word families, stretching out words, writing, and comparing stories this week in centers. We visited our first center of the week today. After centers we had recess. At the end of the day today Mrs. Chase taught a reading lesson while Mrs. Lauber pulled some friends to read with. We had a busy Monday....but it was a great day! We all look forward to learning more about pigs tomorrow! :)
